Original research / 2026-10-regional-1

One building category.
Different jobs to hire.

The Benchmark directory contains 60 distinct companies associated with 12 researched markets. This study counts their advertised delivery roles, then shows the mix within each city sample. These are purposively selected records supported by public sources, not a market census, representative survey or measure of construction quality.

The denominator

60

Distinct companies in this sample.

A company serving several markets is counted once here. Its market appearances are counted separately below.

Full-home service advertised31 / 60

52% of this directory sample.

Structure / finish scope limited or unconfirmed15 / 60

25% of this directory sample.

Materials / design package2 / 60

3% of this directory sample.

Custom builder with project evidence12 / 60

20% of this directory sample.

The mix changes with the sample.

Use the rows to understand what you are comparing. Different discovery paths and coverage evidence affect each city’s included sample; a smaller count does not establish that fewer companies exist or that demand is lower.

What to do with the classification.

FULL-HOME LANGUAGE

Ask for the actual included work.

A broad managed-build offer does not establish every trade, allowance or connection. The KC responsibility study shows why detailed fields and contract questions belong beside the headline category.

STRUCTURE OR PACKAGE

Name the next contractor.

Find out who prices the remaining work before treating a package as the start of a complete budget. Drawings, delivered materials, erection and interior installation are separate possible deliverables.

PROJECT EVIDENCE

Check the role behind the example.

A named project supports a more specific conversation than an unlabeled photograph. It still does not establish a current full-home offer, inspected quality or acceptance of your site.

Selection, counting and limits.

  1. Start with primary evidence. Include a company when reviewed sources support a barndominium-related role and a geographic association. New regional discovery is a purposive search sample. We do not claim every company was found, contacted or verified.
  2. Preserve the original KC edition. KC uses its existing 12 included companies. The September 27 Google and registry inputs and 40 exclusions retain their dates. New directory entries elsewhere have no inferred rating, tenure, license or formula rank.
  3. Deduplicate companies. Normalize company identity and domain before joining the city samples. A firm appears once in the distinct-company total even if several market associations are supported.
  4. Classify advertised overall role. Full-home service, structural work with limited/unconfirmed finish scope, package/design supply, or a custom builder with project evidence. These editorial categories summarize public statements; specific packages and contract boundaries still control.
  5. Retain geography. Local base, named service area, named project and broad state/region evidence remain distinguishable. A broad claim is an inquiry lead, not proof of a local office or current service for every parcel.
  6. Recompute from the export. Group unique company records by scope. For a city, include a company once if it has at least one association with that city. Sum those memberships separately from unique firms. Full JSON and CSV include the records and source URLs.

Selection and publication favor companies whose relevant primary material was accessible. That creates coverage bias. Source readers can be cached. No inference about market size, market share, demand, revenues, capacity, safety or workmanship follows from these counts.
